On the Grafiti Beat

In class we learned that grafiti is either a way to get one's name seen (tagging) or an expression of personal beliefs. The grafiti I have listed I interperet to be spitiual and or political. The woman above is looking down on chaos. This could be spiritual with the woman representing a higher being looking lovingly on creation and it lively chaos. Or, it could be political with the woman representing the government or the upper class looking down on the lower classes struggling to survive.

Either way, it's a very interesting peice of FOLK artwork!

My right brain, My left brain

Right brain: creative
left brain: logical

everyone uses both sides of their brain, but we tend to use one more than the other.
the first website listed below details an activity in which we see "our other self".
Try it out, it is very interesting!

The below link provides a test to show which side of your brain you use most. I am left brained. I answered 7 questions right(brain) and 11 left(brain).

The dancer below either spins clockwise or counter-clockwise
clockwise = right brain
counter = left brain

This Music Video is Art

I know it's not conventional, but I think it's art. It embraces the American dream, and addresses the desire to better one's self...just in a funny way.

I like the way they show very different people singing the song, that demonstrates the universality of the song.

Why am I alone here? I didn't ask to be alone
I'm afraid to be alone
Why won't you look at me? Have I upset you?
I'm afraid to be alone
Why won't you touch me? Have I done something?
I'm afraid to be alone
Where are they taking me? Why don't you want me?!
I'm afraid to be alone
Why are those children with you? Why am I not?
I'm afraid to be alone

Who are these people? They say I am chosen to be their own
but i'm not theirs
I'm afraid to be alone
Who are these people? They say call us mom and dad
but they aren't
I'm afraid to be alone

I am alone
I belong with no one
abandoned by my mother
embraced by another
I am alone
I walk alone
Thanks "mother"

Art and Human Nature

The pictures in this blog represent parts of human nature.
1) blame: the first reaction in a crisis situation is to place blame (and never in one's self)

2) friendship: people long for friendship, whether it be a person or pet or thing. Having someone or something to talk to makes one feel less alone.

Lieing: people lie. To remove themselves from a situation, embelish a story, or keep their spouse happy, it doesn't matter the reason.

Jealousy: I don't think this one needs an exlpanation

Art and the Human Struggle

The pictures below are from the Great depression. They represent the struggle that we are in today. We each fight for our food, fight for our right to live. The system of supply and demand is killing us, but I guess we're over populated.
Family is all we have. We have to take care of each other, or we all lose.

Corinthian and Ionic Columns

Team 15 found a corinthian column at a home in Carrollton across from Bank of America, and an Ionic column at the methodist church in Carrollton. >>see below<<

Dance...why is it art?

Ballet is art. The dancers use the line of their body to create a flow; they create a story solely by using their bodies as the medium.

Art abd the human condition

Salvador Dali's "Mae West" is a wonderful representation of the human condition.

Her eyes are paintings, the red mask is a wall, her skin is the hard wood floor, and her hair is curtains.

Firstly, we all play a character, we are a different person to different people. For example, one does not act the same around your apouse as one does with one's parents. One doesn't act the same at work as one does on the weekend.

Also, the aspects of the room used to depict the parts of her are revealing as well.

Her hair as curtains, representing the "beautiful" hair a woman is "supposed to have". Next, her red mask hiding the area around her eyes demonstrates humility. Lastly, her skin is hardwood; this shows the need for thick skin in life, regardless of gender.

I'm having another catharsis

I'm absolutely appauled at the fact that some people who want children with every fiber of their being can't have them, while other cracked-out couples who can't take care of a child, don't want a child can.

The children end up neglected or abused...it's sad and pitiful!
